HOW TO USE THIS BOOK

(as seen on page 15-16 of Learning for Life)

  • If you are seeking quotations that illustrate or develop a specific idea, turn to the Contents page and look for the appropriate subject heading.
  • If you wish to see all of a person's quotations that are included in this book, turn to the Index of Names, which is a complete listing of authors and page numbers.
  • If you would like further information on an individual, such as their background, time period, etc., turn to the Biographical Notes.
  • Keep this book handy on your desk, beside your bed, or on the coffee table for browsing; it can also be placed on your reference shelf for looking up quotes as needed.
  • Open the book to a random page and, after having found a quote that inspires or interests you, close the book and meditate upon it as your "thought-for-the-day."
  • Use a highlighter pen to identify and mark quotes that you want to remember.
  • Put stars next to quotes affirming thoughts that you had in your own mind.
  • Utilize the wise words as an incentive to improve upon your home, family, and/or educational experience.
  • Post pertinent quotes around your home, classroom, office, library, school, church, study area, etc.
  • Tell your students what famous people like Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, Albert Einstein, and Bill Gates have said about school.
  • Use a quotation to initiate a class discussion or debate.
  • Choose a quotation to serve as an essay topic, asking students to explain why they agree or disagree with the statement.
  • Take the book to a Bible study or homeschool support group meeting as a discussion starter.
  • Refer to it for suitable quotes to emphasize a point in public speeches or sermons, or as a resource for quotes and fillers to put in a newsletter.
  • Public relations directors, editors, and secretaries in educational organizations and homeschool associations can include selected quotes in their publications.
  • Make use of ideas contained within these quotations to help you in writing a family, school, or homeschool mission statement.
  • Choose one of the quotations to use in your email signature, or pick a short one as your personal or classroom motto.
  • Show this book to prospective and beginning home educators or teachers to provide them with inspiration and insight.
  • Give it as a gift to a teacher, tutor, college student, parent, homeschooler, unschooler, school reform activist, alternative education advocate, Sunday school leader, librarian, childcare provider, writer, legislator, history buff, book lover, etc.
  • Donate a copy to your public library, homeschool group, local Christian school or church library.
  • This book will hopefully inspire you to take note of interesting quotes that you find elsewhere. Several blank pages have been provided at the end of the book for this purpose.
